Oct 2020 - Yaruzi's Portfolio Update

A late post, as things got really busy for me at work toward the end of the year. My portfolio's performance was probably at it's worst moment if we looked from the short term perspective. Return YTD was -13.05%, XIRR YTD was -17.05%, and XIRR since inception was -1.14%.

The positive thing was I received the sale proceeds of my flat and injected some of the cash into the portfolio. With a $120K cash injection, I went on a buying spree. As an optimist, I believe the darkest hour will be just before the dawn, and there was no better time to buy except when everyone was fearful. Aside from healthcare and consumer stocks, I also bought banks and other beaten-down stocks like Boeing.

  2. Hi Yaruzi, love following your blog! Quick question, what's your thesis for averaging down on Raffles Medical?

    1. Hi A. Lo

Thank you for dropping by. I always believe that health care is not an option, but a necessity. As people get more affluent, one spending they won't avoid is in health care. Already happened in Singapore that medical cost inflation was higher than the general inflation. If Raffles Medical manage to grow in China, and I'm really optimistic about China 10-20 years from now, I think Raffles Medical will be a good long term investment for me. Based on my back of the envelope calculation, I think Raffles Medical is offering a good value at $0.70, so when it hovered around $0.80 I bought some.

    2. Thanks Yaruzi. Makes a lot of sense. It's pretty hard to find something of value to invest in these days given the market run up, but I've been toying with the idea of averaging down on RMG. It's certainly been a laggard in recent months. However, as you say, take the long term view on China in 10-20 years and the investment case becomes more solid.
